Raiser’s Edge NXT is an integrated, cloud-based fundraising and relationship management solution for nonprofits. Raiser's Edge NXT provide tools to streamline various activities of a nonprofit organization and provide a single view of entire business activities. A user with sufficient administrative privileges can access and share information across the organization. The built-in acquisition tools allow users to reach prospective donors and send them timely and relevant communications. The solution can also target existing donors for growing revenue with cultivation tools designed to address retention and empower evangelists to raise money on behalf of the organization. Raiser's Edge NXT offers data enrichment services that can help fill in donors' contact information and process bank payments. Raiser’s Edge NXT offers subscription-based pricing. Unlimited web-based access means that any number of users can access the system from anywhere with Internet connectivity.

Robust product that's still a work in progress

Raiser's Edge NXT has so much potential and is a worthwhile product as long as you have a team that's comfortable using both web and database view. As a non-profit CRM, it's still hard to beat - especially for organizations with a large donor base and fundraising capacity.

What they liked
  • I love the user interface and the ability to "drag and drop" objects within constituent records to customize how I want to see information
  • The dashboard design is lovely and, after a bit of a learning curve, can be used to display some really helpful information for fundraisers
Room for improvement
  • This is not yet a completed product and shouldn't be used without the RE 7 database view
  • RE NXT has all the basic functionality needed for fundraisers to use exclusively, but not database admin staff
  • A lot of gift processing functionality, and even reporting fields, have not been moved over from RE 7
  • For any detailed reporting using OR or NOT, custom attributes, or gift amounts requires one to go back into database view to use queries/exports/canned reports

More than a CRM, a complete work for a non-profit.

It is a great system to manage not only donations but also communications with donors. A great way to view the information you have and make it easy to plan for campaigns. Also task management tool is easy to use and integrated with the main forms of communication.

What they liked
  • It works almost as a CRM, and it is possible to register every interaction with the donors
  • Also, it integrates with Outlook what make things easy
Room for improvement

When you make the migration, not all the data is migrated correctly, and for a lot of things you need to be doing in the database view and others are only possible on the webview

RENXT helps our office to be the best it can be.

We receive immediate information that we can act on. Yes, you need to put the time in to learn how to use it. I think that what people need to understand is that the way they save data impacts their outcomes with the product. They need to work with it instead of expecting it tho exactly fit the needs of their organization.

  • I've been using Raiser's Edge for 15 years
  • My current office purchased the NXT web view in 2015
  • This product helps our office achieve our fundraising goals in many ways
  • I like that when we purchased the NXT web view we still kept the database view
  • Now we have the best of both worlds
  • Most of our office now works exclusively in the web view and with it, they can now get immediate information by themselves that assists them in their work
  • The new features of the web view have greatly enhanced how we do business

I really like this product and I have a hard time coming up with anything negative to say about it

Very Detailed, BUT Complex

Pretty solid, I wish that I was at a different company when using it. The location that I worked, based upon my observations did not use it in a manner that maximized all of its capabilities. I would recommend taking into consideration exactly what your organizations needs prior to signing up from Raiser's Edge.

What they liked

Raiser's edge allowed for very complex reports which allowing user quite a bit of flexibility when deciding how to input information into the system

Room for improvement
  • To my knowledge RE did not allow a user to create reoccurring list automatically update once saved
  • Because it does allow more complex reports it is a bit more complex to use and navigate
  • There are no known integrations with large email mailing software such as MailChimp or constant contact

No customer support - aggressive re-subscription

RE has a lot of capabilities that are not user-friendly with little-to-no support from them, and very aggressive sales endeavors. Essentially, we did not have good experience with them at all and glad we switched to a service that is user-friendly and very responsive. We were very surprised by their strong-arm tactics to re-subscribe, although they were unsuccessful, thanks to the Better Business Bureau, at which time RE could not produce any contract to which they had claimed we were bound.

What they liked

A lot of functionality for large nonprofits, yet with little to no customer support

Room for improvement
  • Very aggressive sales endeavors and dare I say devious re-subscription processes
  • They tried to re-subscribe us at a very high price quoting a timeline when we could decide to not re-subscribe
  • We tried to unsubscribe, but they said we were bound by a contract
  • We had been using RE for more than a decade, with no consideration
  • They insisted we missed the timeline to unsubscribe and demanded a very expensive fee for the following period
  • Ultimately, we reported them to the Better Business Bureau and they could not produce a signed contract from our agency, or even a template from them
  • We had a back-and-forth with RE via the BBB, at which time they stopped contacting us realizing they had no basis for their demands

Robust by flawed

While I think it is a good database management system, it's very expensive and probably overly detailed and complicated for many small organizations. In addition, the roll-out of NXT was sold to us in a way that we were getting an upgrade to use our current database in a new user-friendly web platform. That was partially true - NXT provides web-based access to a visually pleasing version of your current database. What they don't explain very well is that the web-based view of the database only allows for minimal functions that database users are used to, and that the old database-view would still be necessary to do important tasks, such as running detailed reports, use Online-Express, batch gift entry, etc. Only now, 5 years after we initially adopted NXT, are we starting to see those features added to the web-view.

What they liked
  • Raiser's edge does what it advertises - it gives you a management platform that allows you to create and customize, to an extent, a database of information
  • So much detail can be captured that it really enables you to pull reports and analyze almost anything you can imagine
  • The web view is a nice touch for those that need to access data quickly, while the database view is nice for staff who need to dig deeper into the details and the data
Room for improvement
  • Raiser's Edge is complicated and it can be confusing and time consuming to try and pull all the data that you're looking for
  • Creating and using queries and detailed reports is something that you learn overtime and with lots of practice
  • Additionally, the support system is really lacking
  • Our assigned Blackbaud customer success manager seems to change every 6 months - sometimes more than that
  • It's really a 50/50 chance that you'll get a competent support agent when you chat to solve an issue

RE NXT is the most powerful tool in your fundraising tool bag.

Overall, I have experienced notable success using this tool. The details in our line of work simply cannot (and should not!) exist in a single fundraiser's brain--they ought to be documented, measured, and exist as a delicate yet dynamic record. Raiser's Edge NXT is the perfect balance between delicate and dynamic.

  • From being able to capture details both big and small, to using it as a tool for specific campaign strategy--this software is a heavy hitter and a essential part of the modern fundraising shop

  • Because it's so complex, it can feel daunting to use without equally complex training
  • Perhaps some attention to this could make the initial user experience, especially, a little more rewarding

Blackbaud - easy and seamless implementation

We have had a great transition from power school to blackbaud as a Student information system. The online courses offered by blackbaud are phenomenal for helping get everything set up

What they liked
  • It’s easy for our registrar to maintain the student database
  • The refresh each summer is a pretty intuitive process and course management is easy to roll over as well
Room for improvement

It is difficult to maintain multiple different schedules In The platform (ex: one for middle school and one for high school)
