Love using open table

It's awesome to use and very user-friendly. You can create and cancel a reservation and you can see how busy a restaurant is if you're trying to book.

What they liked
  • I love how it lets me pick out the details and specific times and to let them know if it's for a special occasion or not
  • It's awesome too, that you earn points
  • That can go towards things
Room for improvement
  • As of right now, I don't have any issues with open table

The leading restaurant booking system

Overall, I am very pleased with OpenTable. I use it at both of my restaurants and staff who work at both sites find it easy to navigate as they are used to the system. It is always easy to get in touch by phone with an expert from OpenTable who can explain how to do various things.

What they liked
  • OpenTable is clearly the industry leader when it comes to restaurant reservation systems
  • It is easy to learn how to use and we can switch easily between our two restaurants within the same app
  • There are rarely any issues with the software and orders and table status are updates live across all devices, meaning that I can even see all the live tables from my phone when at home
  • OpenTable is not the cheapest booking system but when customers book through your own network (your own website) it costs a lot less
  • Any staff who are permitted to make changes can have their own log in for security reasons
  • It is easy to communicate with customers and message them if necessary - the advantage of customers ticking a box to allow contact for marketing is very useful too
Room for improvement
  • The cost involved when customers book through the OpenTable network
  • This is £2 per cover in addition to the monthly fee
Switched From

We were advised by another restaurant owner that OpenTable was the best option.

Why they chose it

"The ease of use and real time visual interface."

Easy to use

What they liked

It does generate leads and has many features regarding timing, merging tables, turning on and off dining areas

Room for improvement
  • It can get expensive
  • $250 per month for service, $1 (or more) for every diner booked from OpenTable

Great as a secondary platform

From a restaurant point of view, you would need a platform that automate most of the action without checking every single minute. It is very useful to boost last minute reservations, however not ideal as a main booking platform.

What they liked
  • OpenTable is a good platform for bookings management
  • It has a great look from guests point of view
  • Customer support is always very fast and responsive
Room for improvement
  • OpenTable does not integrate anymore with SevenRooms, therefore it has increase the workload on the platform itself
  • Reporting section quite difficult to use

OpenTable is Superior to the rest!

We've been using It for over 4 years and love it. It is easy to use for the Restaurant Management in the front and back end. We love how it has marketing tools inside the program so we don't have to add anything else on for internal marketing.

What they liked
  • I love using open table for all Reservation Management software abilities as well as the Marketing side of Open Table
  • We've been using open table for over 4 years now and would recommend it to lots of restaurants in our area
Room for improvement

The pricing is very expensive compared to its competitors - which we understand due to all the usage you can get out of the software and it being well-known

Why they chose it

"Because of all the functions it has and it is known to be the best software worldwide"

My honest review of OpenTable

I recommend OpenTable for any venues that need exposure. It’s one of the top booking platforms if you can afford the service

What they liked
  • I like that opentable has an app that’s easily accessible for venues
  • Super easy to adjust booking experiences, add users, monitor / limit functions
  • Tripleseat integration is a breeze
Room for improvement
  • OpenTable’s downfall would be pricing for venues
  • It offers great exposure but at a higher cost
Why they chose it

"We initially changed from sevenrooms to OpenTable for the exposure from that platform. We have since moved back to just using sevenrooms"

Wonderful software - a little pricey

OpenTable serves its intended purpose well, providing a straightforward platform for customers to easily find my restaurant. It offers a functional and reliable reservation system, but doesn’t evoke strong feelings—neither exciting nor disappointing. Its main role is focused on marketing, and the experience is generally neutral without any standout features. The reservation system works efficiently, with solid functionality and a range of useful features. It does the job, though it doesn’t go above and beyond. One downside is the cost. The price can feel a bit high, especially considering the platform is primarily used just for reservations. And, The waitlist feature was not the best fit for us. Reason for Choosing OpenTable I've been considering switching from OpenTable to Toast for our reservation system but am still figuring out how best to communicate the change to our customers, both existing and new.

What they liked
  • Optimized bookings, seating flow, and intuitive reservation booking
  • The status updates for tabling is incredibly helpful as well
Room for improvement
  • Our waitlist was too complicated to implement
  • We still use our own in house waitlist
  • managing the app and walk-in's became a communication issue for staff and guests
  • The cost is a little more than we would like as well
Why they chose it

"OpenTable offered a more personalized experience, and we needed specifics in our specialty."

Good reservation software but not pricing friendly

The software serves its purpose adequately, allowing customers to easily spot my restaurant's name on the list. It doesn't bring much joy or disappointment, but it is primarily intended for marketing purposes. The overall experience is moderate, with no significant highs or lows.

What they liked
  • The reservation software is commendable in terms of functionality and features
  • However, it may not be particularly accommodating in terms of pricing
Room for improvement

The cost of utilizing it is rather steep, especially considering its sole functionality of making reservations

Why they chose it

"I have been contemplating the idea of transitioning our reservation system from OpenTable to Toast. However, I am still deliberating on the most effective approach to market this change to both our existing and potential customers."

OpenTable Feedback

It feels like it is a necessity for restaurants to have this platform in order to succeed and OpenTable takes full advantage of it by squeezing as much as they can with monthly fees as well as per person booking fees.

What they liked
  • Ease of use for both customers and restaurants
  • Dominates market share for booking reservations
Room for improvement
  • Very expensive with variable cost depending on bookings from OpenTable platform versus the restaurants own booking networks
  • Huge market control makes it almost impossible to succeed as a restaurant if you are not using them
  • No clear or transparent way to accurately sort what reservations were made through OpenTable and what weren't when invoicing
  • There is no option to rate diners the same way as restaurants are reviewed so you can select the best customers and decline and the rest during busy times
Why they chose it

"New restaurant so we needed as much exposure as we can get at the beginning to try and succeed."
