  • I wish I had switched a long time ago
Room for improvement
  • I have no cons
  • Everything works really well

Great free/low cost patch management for Windows and Mac

I appreciated the ease of setup and minimal time required to maintain updates. I was happy that the free version for up to 100 (now 200) clients was not time or feature limited. The client stays connected and working over long periods of time, through OS upgrades, and reliably performs updates.

What they liked
  • I use it to manage patches for a small business with multiple locations
  • I like how well it works in a decentralized setting, and how easily it manages compliance patching for Windows clients
  • It runs well with very little weekly time spent monitoring and managing it
Room for improvement

The policy management for Windows, and the MacOS support are missing some features which I am used to with more expensive endpoint management suites

Switched From

The cost of manageEngine for our use case was too high

Why they chose it

"The free version of Action1 for our small network was the best match for our needs."

Efficient Patch Management and Software Deployment for Small Clients

We’ve successfully used Action1 to manage patches and software installations for several clients, each with fewer than 200 devices. The platform is stable, easy to manage, and ideal for small to mid-sized environments. The free version covers all essential needs, making it a cost-effective solution for IT service providers.

What they liked

Easy to use and intuitive interface Reliable patch management across multiple clients Free version available for up to 200 endpoints Cloud-based, no need for on-prem infrastructure Quick deployment and remote execution features

Room for improvement

Reporting features could be more detailed Occasional delays in patch status updates More Trainings with real work examples

Why they chose it

"We chose Action1 because it’s very easy to configure, offers a secure cloud-based platform, and works reliably across different client environments. Compared to other tools, it provides a strong balance of functionality and simplicity—especially valuable when managing multiple small clients. The free version for up to 200 endpoints per organization was also a major advantage."

A Powerful, Seamless Patch & Endpoint Management Solution

As an IT professional overseeing dozens of endpoints—many remote—Action1 has been a game‑changer for our organization. Here's why this tool earns ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ in our book: The cloud‑native, agentless design lets me onboard Windows machines quickly via WinRM and PowerShell. I gain real‑time insights into patch status, installed software, services, and vulnerabilities—all from a single, clean dashboard. Every time I run updates—whether for Windows or third‑party apps like Chrome and Zoom—the system simply works. No guessing, no WSUS headaches; it just schedules, deploys, and reports accurately When rolling out patches, intelligent peer‑to‑peer distribution conserves internet bandwidth, pulling updates locally when possible. Products of their SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and GDPR certifications, Action1 offers multi‑factor authentication, AES‑256 encryption, and even HackerOne‑backed penetration testing. Their global support network and active roadmap ensure folks like me always get help—and new patching features are regularly added We started on the generous free tier, and it's impressively feature‑complete. Even if you surpass that, pricing stays competitive—around $1–2 per endpoint annually—with no surprise roadmap locks. In summary, Action1 delivers robust, reliable patch management and endpoint control in a modern, intuitive platform—without breaking the bank. It gives me confidence that our environment stays up‑to‑date, secure, and fully monitored. If you’re managing Windows endpoints—especially remotely—Action1 is a phenomenal, 5‑star choice.

What they liked
  • Effortless deployment & instant visibility, Reliable patch management, Efficient bandwidth use with P2P, Secure & compliance‑ready
  • and who doesn't love the free tier up to 200 endpoints
Room for improvement
  • The singular option I wish Action1 had was a mobile app for iOS
  • When I'm not in my office, the website is fairly usable on a mobile device
  • A mobile app would elevate that experience and make it a lot easier on mobile devices
Switched From

Prices were going up every year, but we weren't getting anything new worth paying for.

Action1 Patching Software - AMAZING

Fantastic. I have had no pressure from Sales/Marketing staff from Action1trying to hard-sell other licensing or products. They have touched base to make sure I am happy with the product (which I am). The product is so good I actually feel bad that I am using it for free as I have less than 200 endpoints to manage. Amazing product and works well with Intune.

What they liked
  • Pricing for less than 200 endpoints is free
  • The software is easy to install and manage
  • The admin interface is intuitive and easy to use
  • Has further features such as scripting, reporting and alerts
  • I have had NO issues using Action1 and is an amazing tool
Room for improvement
  • If I had to be picky documentation could be a little better for the other features of Action1
  • However, the main feature of Action1 is Patching, and it does this amazingly well
Switched From

We tool advantage of Intune once we moved to a premium license, however the patching/updates side of things was very slow to push out to clients. Action1 was perfect to add as it was extremely well priced (Free!)

Why they chose it

"Action1 was cheaper and worked perfectly for what I needed it for."

All Patched Up

Action1 is easy to use, every option is clear and there's quite a lot of customisation options, setting automations is really clear - had very few issues, anything we throw at it "just works" monitoring the history, errors are clear and easy to work through.

What they liked

Really simplifed our patching needs as well as offering live vulnerability data in an easy to digest format, it has helped us to gain visibility across our organisations and provide our technicians with additional tools to support their roles

Room for improvement

Not having dashboard reporting, this is on their backlog so may not be an issue but having some high level reports suitably formatted for key decision makers would provide some value to a lot of users of Action1, you can connect via PowerBi and configure this data so it's not a major negative but having something baked in would streamline everything

Why they chose it

"The pricing structure suited us better, having a device amount meant we had a static cost each year, whereas staffing fluctuated. It had the core features we needed but also contributed to our Cybersecurity strategy in a clear visible way, the other solutions could do this but it would be a more reactive process, having clear linked CVE's etc allows us to give assurances to our audit processes etc."

Patch Management that honestly works

Overall... Man this has changed my work life. Patch management was always had a "fog of war" to it. Never knew if it was working and always saw signs of it not working... Reporting was horrendous on most products. Action1 has been a complete 180 from the others and I feel like I can honestly depend on my patch management for the first time in ever.

What they liked
  • It honestly works
  • I've used so many systems in the past (Syncro, DattoRMM, ConnectWise Automate, NinjaRMM/One, PDQ Deploy, Intune) and it beats all of them out of the water
  • I can depend on AND see it perform updates when they're supposed to
  • It's absolutely amazing how well their system works
  • [To be fully transparent, I use this product for free (at the time of review, your first 200 devices are free) and may receive a small monetary gift for this review
  • However, my opinions are entirely my own and were not influenced by the pricing or the gift
  • ]
Room for improvement
  • Not enough built-in software packages and does not track update history per-device
  • Also, not able to easily report on vulnerabilities (e

SyncroMSP. Well, we have an MSP that uses Syncro (they're a backup for me as I'm the sole in-house IT). I never had full access to manage the updates with Syncro due to the software limitations. I have used it in the past tho. Like others, it's hard to know if it truely is working. You can go computer by computer to see what updates have applied but it feels like it's always out of date, doesn't have an actual list of available updates, and the process to approve and install them is janky.

Why they chose it

"Action1 is fast. It's accurate. It reports extremely well. Action1 just works."
