Wonderfully easy Mac MDM!

Overall, my experience with Iru has made managing our deployed Macs almost entirely hassle-free! I rarely have problems from our end users, and when they throw a tough issue up the chain, Iru has support engineers on the ready to resolve any issue!

What they liked
  • Kandji was easy to setup and get our users started with
  • Since getting all our Macs onto it, we've had less issues with our Mac users than Windows
  • Once everything is setup, you can pretty much forget it (or at least until Apple makes OS changes you need to address
  • ) Passport has also been handy for allowing our Mac users to utilize SSO for account login, like their Windows counterparts
  • Account managers and tech support are super friendly and quick to resolve issues
Room for improvement
  • This is not a dislike, but more of constructive criticism
  • It would be nice if Kandji could recognize when uploaded Profiles are out of date and incompatible with currently supported systems

Do not look further for your Apple MDM

I am rarely as excited to talk about a product as I do with Kandji, but there are very few products and solutions on the market that completely overshadow their second best.

What they liked
  • I started with Kandji a few years back, when they were still at the seeding stage
  • At the time I had tested Intune, Jamff and Hexnode but I was immediately struck by the ease of use and the lightning fast communication between Kandji and my devices
  • Besides the extensive knowledge base, I found that customer support was knowledgeable and helpful, they helped me to go through some scripts that allowed me to fully customise my profiles
  • I can now update and patch my iOS and MacOS devices with complete effortlessness
  • I am Kandji's first fan and from what I can see, Iru thought the same as I did and are starting to build on this fantastic product
Room for improvement
  • Kandji was more expensive than other solutions when I picked it, especially when compared to Jamff that has offers for the education and government sector
  • This is however largely offset by the performance of the product, and justified by the fact that every penny put into kandji goes into the development of this first-in-class state of the art platform

Best option for modern Apple fleet management

Couldnt be happier with our decision to move to Kandji, they have been a huge value add to my tech stack and made Apple management much easier

What they liked
  • We started using Kandji's MDM service to help with managing our fleet of Apple products
  • We chose this solution because when comparing it with incumbents they had the least barrier to entry and the most functionality for the price
  • Since implementing it, we’ve seen improvements in compliance with our policies through enforcement and fewer tickets to the IT team regarding installing corporate software, and I especially loves how easy it is to deploy new apps and policies across the fleet
  • The support team is so quick to answer and willing to really hop in and help build out solutions
Room for improvement

One of the challenges we've faced with Kandji is that since they are newer than incumbents like JAMF some third party providers dont have explicit instructions for setting up their products with Kandji and you have to work a bit harder to implement

The migration from JAMF to Kandji was a seamless transition for our team.   • I was first attracted the ease of use, but later also fell in love with the update and patch management structures
  • The customer support is outstanding and for me, the switch to Iru has been good value for money
  • The transition from our old device management was simple and the Iru rep assigned to me knew all about all I had to do to make it happen

I'm still finding it icky to navigate through large assignment maps, but other than that I'm a happy camper

Jamf was getting expensive, their customer support, that was top notch, completely dropped the ball and we also had lots of trouble with the database crashing, outages and sluggishness.

"Iru was the best match for me and my company. Addigy and Mosyle are good products, but I got the sense that they are targeting/focusing on small businesses and eduction respectively. I wanted a stable replace for Jamf with mostly just the features I actually used."

Kandji, the best Apple MDM I have ever seen

Great! No issues. If there are issues their customer service team is onyl a chat box away. The turnaround time is always commendable.

What they liked
  • User-friendly and comprehensive in what we want to do as a consulting company
  • The ability to push custom solutions through Kandji is an additional plus as a technical team, that is something we do day to day
  • A plus to it is also its ability to identify devices that are misconfigured, out of date in terms of updates and correct them whether automatically or through interaction from us
  • How could I forget this
  • The customer service is absolutely top tier
  • If anything, that is the one thing that will always be the difference maker between similar products
  • We value a top tier customer support team and that is Kandji
Room for improvement
  • Addtional pricing options for smaller companies
  • The minimum amount of devices per company should be revised as often times companies have far less apple devices vs let us say a Windows and Androdi devices

A Game-Changer for Apple Device Management and Compliance

Very intuitive device management

We didn't have to ask for customer support ever, except for expanding the licenses. The truth is that we configured once, and didn't have to configure too much. Also I like the monitoring of Mac versions to keep everything updated

What they liked
  • Self servicing and managing the devices is pretty easy
  • Also, integrating with third parties and applications
  • The model of different roles worked very well with our different project setups
Room for improvement
  • Instructions on Apple enrollment are not exactly clear
  • But that may be more an Apple problem
  • Better instructions on how to make the automatice enrollment work may be useful

An excellent tool, but not very appealing due to its cost.

I worked with Kandji from 2020 to 2022 and started using it again this year. It remains, in my opinion, an excellent MDM tool, with strong support and well-written documentation. Unfortunately, the relatively high price has prevented me from adopting it in some other companies.

What they liked
  • The tool is very easy to use, and the UX is quite intuitive — not to mention the speed at which configurations are applied to the devices
  • It offers excellent macOS patch management and a wide range of configuration options in the Library
Room for improvement
  • For now, I think the way the Assignment Map is edited can be a bit complex, especially when considering the management of over a thousand devices
  • However, it works well for my current use case
  • I just believe it would be helpful to have an easier way to create exceptions within blueprints
  • I also think there should be more monitoring features, something similar to the Vulnerabilities section, which turned out great, but focused on devices instead
  • Perhaps graphs showing computer usage rates, running processes, and installed tools
  • Something along those lines would be very useful to gain deeper insights into the device fleet

IRU Works Well from time of Install

IRU was one of those products that worked from the time of install. I tried other products and even broke a contract with another MDM vendor because I disliked the product so much. IRU was easy to setup and worked right away. I have never wanted a feature it did not have, and I can always trust that it is working correctly. I love products like that. Not too complicated and work from the beginning without tons of customization.

  • IRU is designed from the groud up with Apple products in mind
  • I like this
  • It means that the policies you can set work very well and are very clear
  • It just works very well
Room for improvement
  • When it comes to MDMs, you get a decision point on using multiple products that are very good at what they do with a particular device type or trying to use one product that does all products just ok
  • I took the multiple product route and use IRU for Apple devices and another MDM for Windows devices
  • Both work very well

Meraki was fine but was not feature rich and Jamf was too much customization for what I needed.

Why they chose it

"I purchased Jamf and cancelled my contract. The implementation support after I purchased the product was non-existent and then they wanted to change me after the fact to get it up and running. The product was too big and too much for my needs."
