About Square Point of Sale

Square Point of Sale is a mobile POS system available for iOS and Android devices. Key capabilities of the Square POS system include online payment processing, sales reports, inventory tracking, digital receipts, email and SMS marketing campaigns, eCommerce, insights/analytics, and more. Square offers magstripe, chip, and contactless card readers for accepting payments via debit and credit cards, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. Square Virtual Terminal enables payment collection through a computer, which allows merchants to key in card details so that no card reader is required. Square POS is flexible enough to work for any business, from retailers and bakeries to coffee shops to hairdressers. Retailers can manage their inventory from any device. Products can be imported via CSV and names, prices, and quantities can be edited at any time. Daily stock alert emails notify users of items with low or no stock, and inventory levels can be exported to printable spreadsheets. Generate more revenue by easily collecting electronic payment online and through POS

This has allowed our PTO to quickly collect online and POS payments at events and after a slight learning curve, it is relatively easy to maintain.

What they liked
  • Adding and modifying items for sale is very intuitive and easy to learn
  • Sale transaction tracking and report exports are easy to navigate
  • The template for sending email campaigns is helpful
Room for improvement
  • Setting item categories and subcategories can be circuitous
  • Differentiating hidden items vs archived items vs visible and invisible items is ambiguous

Small business must have

We’ve enjoyed having square point of sale. We switched over from a competitor and have found it to be a great tool for our business

Game changer for my business, great options, easy to use

Square is a game changer for such a small business as mine. I believe that since I am offering many payment options, my customers are more keen to buy. I find it a great tool to especially when dealing with my customers from abroad, I don’t think I would be able to have them without square. Many options, great even if your business is growing fast, and at the same time very intuitive and easy to use on mobiles as well as on a computer.

  • Square has a lot of fantastic options yet it is still very easy to use, very intuitive and I use it from my computer as well as my phone
  • It’s great and gives my customers so many payment options including Clearpay and that means so much for me as a small business
  • I can offer so many easy ways to pay me, especially for my customers from abroad
  • True game changer for my business
  • Online terminal means that I can easily send payment links and if for some reason there is an issue with one way of doing it, Square gives me more options and it’s great
Room for improvement
  • I don’t think I have least favourite thing
  • The only think I maybe don't fully get is why there is a separate app for invoicing but maybe this make sense if square is the only system you use

Square makes running our coffee shop easy

Between online orders, in-person sales, marketing, and our loyalty program, it’s been really convenient having everything in one place.

What they liked
  • Super easy to set up and use
  • I love how it's an all-in-one type system
  • Also Square is so versatile I'll be using it for every business I start no matter the industry
Room for improvement
  • I've always gotten help when chatting Support, but it's a 50/50 if they are nice about it
  • I do like having the option of web-based chat, phone call, or email support

"I choose Square over alternatives because of initial cost and setup. It's cheaper and easier to set up Square than the others. In the long run Square is still the best."

Positive as a user, but ultimately I stopped using it because of the issues I was having with integration.

  • Ease of use- it’s very approachable for any digital native without any need for training
  • I set it all up on my own

  • The integration between square Point of Sale and Xero needs a lot of work
  • I spent a lot of hours correcting errors

Easy to Utilize for Small Businesses but High Transaction Fees

Ease of use for in store payments make checking out clients a breeze. Its mobile compatibility is fabulous for when we have our booths and the craft fairs in town.

What they liked
  • Having no contract to be bound by is one of the top reasons we started using this as our POS system
  • Its is easy to use and manage in a small business setting with less complex inventory to keep track of
Room for improvement
  • It does lag on certain devices
  • The fees are slightly high for the lack of customization you can do
  • There should not be fees for online transactions
  • In an ideal world the fees should be under 2%
  • As of writing this review the fees are 2
  • 6% + 15c per transaction
  • Also verifying our bank account to receive payments took about a week

Pretty Square!

It has been a positive experience - overall it's a great product.

What they liked

The ease of use - whether with a live card or online, it's very user friendly both for me and my customer

Room for improvement

The processing fees are a bit on the expensive side - would prefer a lower percentage

Easy to use POS system with quick setup

Square has been easy to use and a product we use when it is convenient such as at events, including even an event as large as a gala. The setup is easy and we've had no trouble using their point of sale terminals.

  • Easy setup, easy to use machines for point of sale during events

As always, as a nonprofit we wish they would be more generous on discounting transaction fees

Easy To Use, Good Customer Service

My overall experience with Square has been positive. Great point of sale software that has been easy to use and train others on.

  • Perfect for small business owners to easily deploy and track sales
  • Big fan of the user friendly interface and would definitely recommend to others with similar businesses

  • A few small bugs with set up and processing
  • Overall positive though, with quick and helpful customer service professionals available to help troubleshoot any issues
